BREAKING: FG Secures Release Of Zainab Aliyu

The Federal Government has secured the release of Zainab Aliyu who was arrested in Saudi Arabia for alleged drug trafficking.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said the government has been able to establish the innocence of Zainab and the second Nigerian involved in the case, Ibrahim Abubakar will be released tomorrow to the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia.

Well-meaning Nigerians will acknowledge that power supply has improved compared to 2015 - Fashola.

The Minister of Power Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola, has said that well-meaning Nigerians can attest to the fact that power supply has improved compared to what it was before the Buhari-led administration came into power in 2015.

Fashola stated this at a media parley in his Abuja office yesterday Monday April 29th.

The Minister said he was very convinced that he has fulfilled his promise of incremental power, better journey experience on the roads, affordable housing, as well as economic opportunities for Nigerians.

“In the power sector, well-meaning Nigerians acknowledge our efforts by saying clearly that their power supply experience has improved compared to 2015, and we acknowledge that the work has not finished. The task going forward is to solve the outstanding issues of estimated billing, supply of meters, add more power and make the supply steady which I stated will be our medium-term goal'' he said
Speaking further, the Minister said in the area of road construction and housing, his office has done tremendously well.

“Construction workers will tell you that they now have a better deal, likewise quarry operators. More importantly the road transport operators and their unions and commuters will tell you that their journey times are better. The housing sector has a similar story of economic opportunities with construction going on in 34 states most of which are now largely completed.

But our work is not finished. These are some of the reasons why President Muhammadu Buhari was re-elected. To take the people to the next level and finish the job.” He said the Buhari government has opened a new page in the power sector through his ministry about the possibilities that lie in the off- grid sources. In the works sector, the Ilorin-Jebba road which had collapsed and used to take 3-7 days to traverse 93km is now finished and take a little over one hour to travel.

Maintenance work on bridges, long neglected is being undertaken on assets like 3rd Mainland Bridge, Isaac Boro Bridge, Tamburawa Bridge, Eko Bridge, the old Niger Bridge, while new ones like 2nd Niger Bridge, Bodo-Bonny Bridge, Loko-Oweto Bridge, are being constructed and others have been recently awarded,” he said

Sri Lankan attacks: PM apologises over failure to protect victims

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Friday apologised to the nation for the failure to protect victims from Sunday’s explosions which killed 310 people and injured over 500.

In a statement on his official twitter account, Wickremesinghe said “We take collective responsibility and apologise to our fellow citizens for our failure to protect victims of these tragic events.”

“We pledge to rebuild our churches, revive our economy, and take all measures to prevent terrorism, with the support of the international community,” he added.

A day after the attacks, Wickremesinghe said the police had received prior information of possible terror attacks but had failed to take adequate measures against the threats.

Wickremesinghe said he and his cabinet of ministers had not been informed of the prior threats.

President Maithripala Sirisena, in a news briefing on Friday said that Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara had received prior warnings from state intelligence over possible attacks but had failed to brief him as well.

He blamed both officials for severely neglecting their duties.

Fernando resigned from his post on Thursday following a request by the president. The president has requested the police chief to resign as well

Lagos Assembly dashes hope, fails to pass Ambode’s 2019 budget

The Lagos State House of Assembly has dashed the hope of many as it failed to pass the 2019 budget on Friday.

Expectations were rife that the lawmakers would pass the budget on Friday, but they dashed all hopes, raising fear that the lawmakers were on a mischief move to frustrate Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and ensure that he did not spend from the budget.

This is the first time since 1999 that the Assembly had not passed an appropriation bill by the end of April.

In Friday’s sitting, the House only took the presentation of the report of the Appropriation committee as contained in its order paper for Thursday’s sitting.

The Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, Gbolahan Yishawu presented the voluminous report at plenary.

After his presentation, Majority Leader of the House, Sanai Agunbiade said because of the volume of the report and its technicality, the House would have to choose another day for the comprehensive debate of the report.

It is after the debate of the report and necessary amendments that the third reading of the Bill will be taken before its passage.

Meanwhile if the recommendations of the Appropriation committee is adopted by the House it means the budget size will increase from the original N852.317 billion to N874.96 billion; that is a difference of about N22.541b from the figure presented to the House by the governor in February

Young men arrested for stealing used female pants In Lagos, strike a pose with It

Operatives of the Lagos and Ogun states police commands have arrested three suspects for allegedly stealing female pants. The police in Lagos arrested two of the suspects – Friday Emmanuel and Obiora Nwabueze – in the Mile 2 area of the state.

The state police spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, in a statement on Wednesday, said the suspects were arrested after they had a disagreement over the pants.

He said, “Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, Satellite division, on Saturday, April 20, 2019, arrested two suspects who gave their names as Friday Emmanuel, 21; and Obiora Nwabueze, 29, at the Mile 2 under bridge while at each other’s throats. Both suspects were arrested after they engaged each other in fisticuffs following the failure of one of the parties to keep to the terms of agreement regarding the stealing of the pants.

“According to Emmanuel, Nwabueze asked him to steal used female pants for a fee of N30,000. However, after he had successfully accomplished the task, Nwabueze reneged on his promise and forcefully attempted to take the pants from him, which led to an exchange of blows. “During interrogation, the said Emmanuel regretted listening to his friend, who he claimed pestered him to get the female underwear he (Nwabueze) desperately needed to become rich.” Elkana said the two suspects had been arraigned before a magistrates’ court for conspiracy and stealing.

The police in Ogun said a teenager, Tasiu Shaibu, was arrested for stealing a pair of pants belonging to one Miss Taiwo Oladipupo.

The suspect was alleged to have removed the pants from the line where it was spread to dry and put it in his pocket.

The scream of Oladipupo’s parents, was said to have attracted neighbours, who caught the suspect, collected the pants and handed him over to the police.

He was arraigned on Wednesday before a magistrate’s court in Isabo Abeokuta.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Olu-Balogun Lawrence, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 20, 2018 around 1.30pm on Baase-Owe compound, Oke-Iro, in the Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the state.

The prosecutor said, “The offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Ogun State, 2006.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one count of stealing.

The Magistrate, Olakulehin Oke, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. Oke said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must show evidence of tax payment to the state government.

The case was adjourned till May 3, 2019 for trial

Bricklayer arrested for selling 6-week-old twin for N500,000

The police in Benin, Edo State, have arrested a 26-year-old bricklayer, Kenneth Ofoke, for allegedly selling his six-week-old twin babies for N500,000.

Kenneth who hails from Ebonyi State, sold the infants in Port Harcourt but was arrested in Edo State.

He was among suspects paraded by the Edo state Police Commissioner, Mohammed DanMallam, for alleged involvement in various crimes. It was gathered that the suspect had sold four babies before he was arrested.

He allegedly sold his twin for N500,000, and the other two for N30,000 and N50,000 respectively.

In an interview with journalists, Kenneth claimed the twin he sold were his children and that the incident happened in August last year.

He said he sold the twin “due to financial constraints and ill-health of the children and their mother.” He added that they unanimously decided to take the babies to where they would be catered for.

“My wife gave birth to twin, she and the twin fell ill, so I called my aunt who said I should bring them to Port Harcourt to help me out so that I can take care of the woman.

“When we get to Port Harcourt, my aunt asked us whether we were really husband and wife and whether the twin were really our children and we said yes. She then told us that the children needed better treatment so as to save their lives and that of the mother.

“I told her to save the children so that I can go and take care of my wife. I also told her that we will be coming to see them from time to time.

“She then told us that the children would be taken to an orphanage homes and called the people who gave me N500,000 to take care of my wife in exchange for the baby,” he said.

When asked whether he married the woman, he said “the woman brought the children to me, saying I am the father of the babies and that I impregnated her when I was friending her.”

The Edo CP, DanMallam, said the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation

Ajimobi inaugurates 27-member joint Transition Committee

Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has inaugurated the first joint transition committee in the history of the state, which is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring a smooth transition from the incumbent to the Governor-elect, Mr Seyi Makinde.

The 27-member committee, comprising 17 from the government and 10 from the incoming administration, was inaugurated at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Ibadan, on Thursday.

Part of the terms of reference of the committee was to evolve a seamless framework for the change of baton, as well as to organize a befitting handing-over ceremony.

In his address at the occasion, Ajimobi admonished the committee members to place the interest of the state and its citizens above other narrow interests by emulating the existing cordiality between himself and Makinde.

Ajimobi emphasized that the event should not be seen as a mere stunt targeted at making history, but should be regarded as a deliberate step to promote the tenets of politics without bitterness.

The governor said, “We make history today again as the first administration in the history of Oyo State in which the governor will inaugurate a transition committee comprising representatives of the incumbent and incoming administrations. Consequently, today’s event is another ‘Koseleri’ (unprecedented) in the annals of the history of our dear state. It is also pertinent to note that for the first time in the history of Oyo State, an incumbent governor formally received in audience a governor-elect (Makinde).

“These, for us, are not just stunts for making history, but a demonstration of true tenets of democracy, good governance, politics without bitterness and the ‘Ajumose’ spirit of collective responsibility. The governor-elect, upon my request, forwarded a list of nominees to government and I have no doubt in my mind that members of his team are men and women capable of implementing a smooth transition from one government to another.”

Ajimobi expressed the hope that future administration would take a cue from his gesture by sustaining such a collaborative spirit and not make the event a ‘Koselemo’ (forbidden).

He urged the incoming administration to raise the bar on delivery of good governance like he successfully did through his administration’s restoration, transformation and repositioning agenda.

According to him, the cutting-edge agenda, which began with the restoration of peace and security to the state, provided a solid foundation for the state’s massive infrastructural revolution, innovative and result-oriented approach to education, empowerment programmes, pragmatic healthcare delivery and improved agro-business and enhanced value-chain addition in agriculture, among others, bore true testimonies to his administration success story.

Representatives of committee from the government include Secretary to the State Government, Mr Olalekan Alli (Chairman); Head of Service, Mrs Hannah Ogunesan; Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Seun Abimbola; Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun; and Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Chief Isaac Ishola.

Others include Commissioner for Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, Prince Oyewole Oyewumi; Commissioner for Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan; Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Survey, Mr Isaac Omodewu; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Abimbola Kolade; Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Adeniyi Olowofela; Commissioner for Finance, Mr Abimbola Adekanmbi; and Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Wasiu Dauda.

Five Killed As Jilted Lover Sets Girlfriend's Family Members Ablaze In Ondo State

A man, Deji Adenuga, a.k.a. Dakar, on Tuesday allegedly set eight family members of his estranged girlfriend ablaze on Adetuwo Street, Igbodigo town, in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that five of the victims had given up the ghost, while three others were receiving treatment at the Trauma Centre, Ondo town, Ondo State.

A source told PUNCH correspondent that Adenuga was dating a girl in the family, identified only as Titi; but she later called off the relationship. In retaliation, the suspect was alleged to have set the room where the family lived ablaze.

The source said, “What happened today (Tuesday) was shocking. Oshodi transport interchange to start operation May 2

Planet Project Ltd., the contractor handling the Oshodi Transport Interchange of the Lagos State Government, says terminal three of the facility will become functional from May 2.

Mr Biodun Otunola, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, disclosed this while conducting newsmen round the project on Tuesday in Lagos State.

Otunola said that President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to commission the project on Wednesday.

He said that work was still ongoing at terminals one and two of the project, adding that when completed, the interchange is expected to process about three million passengers per day.

“Terminal three is ready and will kick off operations on May 2 after the commissioning on Wednesday. From what we have on ground, you can see that the terminal can take 4,000 persons at once.

Terminals one and two are expected to be ready in less than three weeks. The terminals are expected to take care of inter and intra city transports.

“About nine million people use transport in Lagos State daily.

“What we have done is to create a state-of-the-art terminal that will ensure security, encourage passengers to shop as they are travelling and make them as comfortable as possible with easy to access ticketing system.

“We have CCTV everywhere to help with security, the entire waiting area is fully air-conditioned and with this development, there will be value added to the state,” he said.

He said that the interchange was designed to be at an affordable cost to customers, but most importantly for passengers, to travel without fear to any destination, as the operations at the interchange would be on a 24-hour basis.

“The first terminal will cater for inter-city transportation, where all buses going out of the state will take off and drop passengers on return. The second terminal will be solely for the Bus Rapid Transit, BRT scheme, that will cater for passengers commuting from Oshodi to Abule Egba, Okokomaiko, LASU and so on. The third terminal will cater for passengers navigating Oshodi to Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Surulere, Victoria Island, Ikorodu, among others.

“ The Oshodi project will also make provision for a mega shopping mall to be built through a Public-Private Partnership agreement at the third terminal. The three terminals will serve 1,000 modern buses. The terminals will also have 1,000 light effects to project the aesthetics of the ambience.

“On completion of the project, Oshodi will be a beautiful zone. It will have the toga of ‘if you don’t spend a night in Oshodi, you have not visited Lagos State,’ It will be an iconic area where people will want to take pictures. This place will be tourism-driven.

“Oshodi had been a no-go area. Over 30 parks are here and these will be put into 13 parks. The entry and exit points will be modernised and this will bring sanity and orderliness to Oshodi. The buses are ready for the first take off in terminal three,” Otunola added.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that hundreds of workers were seen putting finishing touches to the terminal three ahead of its commissioning on Wednesday.

NAN reports that the Oshodi Transport Interchange Project was part of the Bus Reform Initiative of the Akinwumi Ambode-led administration of Lagos State, designed to transform the Oshodi area and enhance connectivity.

The project sought to transform Oshodi into a world-class Central Business District with business, travel and leisure activities.

Erinle said the roads mapped out for repair were presently in terrible state, and that the situation was impeding free flow of traffic in those areas with its attendant consequences.

He said in the next few weeks, all the potholes would disappear on Lagos roads.

He listed some of the roads to include Ikotun-Egbe, Ijegun, Alimosho, Dopemu, Aka-Kemberi in Amuwo Odofin, Marina Beach Road in Apapa; Olaniyi Road in Ifako Ijaiye; Acme-Oba Akran road and Ikeja; Ijede road; Sabo market road in Ikorodu and Costain road by Brewery.

Other roads also listed include Glover road; Herbert Macaulay road in Mainland Local Government; Itire-Ogunlana drive intersection; Itire-Lawanson; Babs Animashaun road in Surulere; Alakija/WAEC road in Somolu and Obalende road.

“We have received quite a number of complaints from residents and motorists on the state of the roads and how it is directly affecting travel time which in turn has negative effects on the ease of doing business in the state,” he said.

“The Governor has therefore directed the Public Works Corporation to move immediately and commence repair on those roads to ameliorate the traffic that residents have been going through as a result of the state of the roads,” he said.
Erinle, however, appealed to residents and motorists to bear with the government, urging them to drive carefully while the roads are being fixed.

“YOU WILL EAT THE WILL Of GOD”

As the Sunday Holy Communion Service was about to conclude. The servants brought the Holy Communion which was personally cooked by our father Prophet Penuel. The man of God prepared Rice with Mopani Worms and Pork Meat, declaring it as Holy Communion.

You cannot eat what was prepared by the father and not be blessed. What many might see as unclean what the father blessed becomes pure. This is the Will of God that was served to the congregation.

This is what the man of God declared as he was about to serve to the congregation. “Here Is my Perfection.

EFCC arrests eight train ticket racketeers.

The  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has  arrested eight suspected train ticket racketeers in Abuja and Kaduna.

The agency said Clement Zakka, Udim Samson, Adams Danladi, Otitomoni Omobolanle and Hassan Dauda were nabbed at the Kubwa train terminal in  Abuja on Saturday while three others, including a Nigeria Railway Corporation worker,  were apprehended at the Rigasa station in Kaduna on Sunday.

They were said to have sold the tickets for between N2,500 and N15,000.

Acting spokesman for the EFCC, Tony Orilade, said in a statement on Monday said that the suspects sold the N1,300 economy ticket for  N2,000 and N5,000  while   they  sold  the first-class ticket  for  N7,000 and  N15,000 instead of   N2,500.

Orilade said, “The commission  acted  after receiving an intelligence report alleging that some people  at the Idu and Kubwa train stations had  been making it difficult for passengers to have access to tickets and further sabotaging government’s  efforts in ensuring easy transport across the country.

“The suspects were arrested during a sting operation at the stations. They will soon be charged to court.”

The anti-graft agency said its investigations revealed that some members of staff of the stations connived with hoodlums  to defraud unsuspecting travellers.

It explained that the Station Manager, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Parcel Booking Officer of the Kaduna Railway Station had also been invited for questioning.

Our correspondent on Sunday reported the ticketing racketeering at the Kubwa train station and complaints by passengers about the  ticketing  system designed to exploit customers.

WOMAN CELEBRATES HER HOUSEMAID OF 13 YEARS, WHO GOT ADMISSION INTO HIGHER INSTITUTION.

Inspiring. . .

She wrote:
"I am proud of us...
On 17th February, 2005, my husband brought her home as my house help. She was smaller than l wanted. I needed a much bigger girl, but the mum could only allow her as the elder sister was elsewhere. The only option was to manage her, but managing meant that l had to nurse her as she was too small to even wash her own clothes, the breakable etc

It wasn't also easy to raise a child with certain orientations.

But l tried. When the task became too tedious,

I packaged her home, but the father gave us a mind boggling question: if she is your daughter, will you throw her away? Please, train her as yours. I want her different.

As stunning as that question sounded, l thank God that l took that challenge seriously and to my heart.
I teach, I scream, I plead, l appeal and l advice...
To make sure she turns out better than she would.
Sometimes, she makes me furious, laugh, cry, and proud, just like now.

From Primary 2, she had gone through to secondary, made her papers, have trained on computer literacy before going for skill acquisition.

Today, she has moved to a higher level. She is matriculating at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, and l am so happy that our 13 years together is not a waste after all.

She has long ceased to be a maid in my home.

She is now Aunty's Auntie, my little sister, my children's Auntie. And no one knows she is not my sibling.

Uchechi, today is the beginning of a new life for you.

We are happy for you. Sky is your jumping pad.

We pray that you graduate with flying colours. And we continue to pray for financial breakthrough so that you do not suffer any stress concerning your education.

Congratulations, dear. We are super proud of you."
