Speaking during his televised declaration in Abuja on Sunday, the lawmaker who represents Surulere 1 federal constituency, said he is in the race as a “beacon of hope”.

Gbajabiamila, who is currently the majority leader in the 8th assembly, is a fifth-term member in the All Progressives Congress (APC) who also ran for speakership in 2015 but lost to Yakubu Dogara.

The APC is expected to produce the next speaker of the house, as it currently has an overwhelming majority in the green chamber.

According to the lawmaker, he is contesting for the position as “a symbol of encouragement and point of contact for the many young men and women out there who believe that with hardwork and commitment whatever the mind can conceive is possible.”

He said he is contesting for speaker to bring government closer to the people and to “galvanise federal lawmakers to make life more abundant for Nigerians.”

“We are not where we ought to be considering the abundance of talents and the blessings from God. However, I am rest assured that slowly but surely we will get there,” he said.

“It is because of this unshakeable belief in the potential and genius of Nigeria and the majesty of our democracy that I today, after wide consultations with my colleagues, friends, family, party and stakeholders and in total submission to the will of God, today formally declare my intention to seek the position of the office of the speaker of the 9th Assembly and offer my service to the nation in this capacity.

“With all sense of humility, I seek this office with a rich legislative background and pedigree and having just won a historic 5th term mandate to the house, I have in the last 16 years dedicated my life to the service of my constituents and Nigeria.

“I have studied and understood the intricate workings of the legislature, a critical arm of government and I have come to understand the imperative of striking a delicate balance in the relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government without compromising the latter‘s independence.”

The APC and President  Muhammadu Buhari is reported to have endorsed Gbajabiamila for the position of speaker.

How consumption of ‘Ewedu’ can help prevent cancer, coronary diseases – Nutritionist

Mr Olugbenga Jagun, a nutritionist at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital ( UATH), Gwagalada, has said that jute leaf known as ‘Ewedu’ can prevent cancer and coronary diseases due to its richness in antioxidants and phytochemicals.

Jagun said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

The jute leaf is one of the common African leafy vegetables cultivated in gardens and farms for home use.

He said that “Dieticians called it a pharmacy on your plate due to the numerous nutritional-health benefits. “It is a good source of vitamins and mineral elements such as calcium, potassium, iron, vitamin C, B, K, Folic acid. “These vitamins and mineral elements have a great therapeutic effects on our body such as the lowering of blood pressure and neural tube defects in pregnant women.

“It is rich in both essential and non-essential amino acid, example is Lysine. ”

He added that it also helps to prevent constipation due to the presence of fibre in it, making it a natural laxative.

Jagun also said the plant could be ideal in the case of obesity because of its almost no-fat and low cholesterol level.

“The leaf is a good anti-anemic which prevents anaemia due to high iron content and also facilitates the production of red blood cells. “Excellent and appropriate food for the elderly because of its calcifying action, that is the supply of calcium,” he said.

Jagun advised Nigerians to consume the leaf due to its numerous health benefits.

NAN reports that Jute leaf is popularly called Ewedu among the Yoruba, ahingbara in Igbo and Rama in Hausa

Innoson to take over GTBank? Here's what you should know

Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing, a Nigerian automobile company, has claimed that it has obtained a nod from court to take over Guaranty Trust Bank, one of the largest deposit money banks in the country.

In a statement first shared on its Twitter page on Friday, Innoson said the Supreme Court upheld the ruling earlier given at the federal high court in Ibadan.

Innoson’s statement

The statement released by Cornel Osigwe, Innoson’s head of corporate communications read: “The Chairman of Innoson Group, Chief Dr Innocent Chukwuma, OFR has through a Writ of FiFa taken over Guaranty Trust Bank PLC for and on behalf of Innoson Nigeria Ltd as a result of the Bank’s indebtedness to Innoson Nigeria Ltd. In a landmark decision on February 27th 2019, the Supreme Court of Nigeria dismissed GTB’s appeal – SC. 694/2014- against the judgment of Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division.

“The Court of Appeal, Ibadan division had in its decision of 6th February 2014 dismissed GTB’s appeal against the Federal High Court, Ibadan Division.

“Thus, the Court of Appeal affirmed the judgment of the Federal High Court, Ibadan Division which ordered GTB by way of Garnishee order absolute – to pay N2.4 Billion to Innoson with a 22% interest, per annum, on the judgment sum until the final liquidation of the judgment debt.

“Rather than obey the judgment of the Court of Appeal, GTB approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision.

“However in an ruling delivered by Honourable Olabode Rhodes-Vivour JSC on Wednesday, February 27th2019, the Lord Justices of the Supreme Court (JSC) dismissed GTB’s appeal and thus affirmed the concurrent judgment of both the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court, Ibadan Division which ordered GTB by way of Garnishee order absolute – to pay N2.4 Billion to Innoson with a 22% interest, per annum, on the judgment until the final liquidation of the judgment.

“The Judgment debt of N2.4B has an accrued interest as at today of about N6,717,909,849.96 which results to about N8.8 Billion.

“Based on the Supreme Court’s decision of 27th February 2019 the counsel to Innoson, Prof McCarthy Mbadugha ESQ, had approached the Federal High Court, Awka Division for leave to enforce the judgment having obtained Certificates of Judgment from the Ibadan Division of the Federal High Court.

“Having obtained the requisite leave, the Federal High Court issued the necessary process for levying execution – the Writ of Fifa.”

GT Bank: Judgement issued against Custom’s account, not us

In response to the judgement, Erhi Obebeduo, company secretary of the bank, said: “The attention of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (“the Bank”} has been drawn to statements circulating in the news and social media in respect of a purported enforcement of a Judgment of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State. at one of its branches in Anambra State.

“The Bank as a law-abiding corporate citizen is taking all necessary legal steps to address this situation and ensure that no illegal or fraudulent execution is carried out.

“It is important to state that the Judgment allegedly in issue is in respect of Garnishee Proceedings against the account of the Nigerian Customs Service Board domiciled with the Bank and not against the Bank as an entity.

“The Bank remains committed to providing best-in-class customer experience to all its valued Customers.”

What is a Writ of FiFa?

A Writ of Fieri Facias is a legal instrument issued after a judgement and it is used to seize the assets of a judgment debtor till the debt in question is settled.

Usually, only the debtor’s property that can satisfy the judgment is held.

In the case of Guaranty Trust Bank, which has assets in trillions, only a portion of assets identified by the court would be held.

Will my deposits be affected?

Your deposits cannot be affected as they have been insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Company (NDIC) and every bank has a deposit with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which it can get in desperate times to stay afloat.

Assets of the bank like buildings and its stake in other entities are on the line here and the shareholders of the bank will be ones to be affected by this if and when the payment is made.

Nigerian ex-beauty queen dies during butt enlargement surgery in Lagos

An American Surgeon based in Lagos Nigeria has taken to her heels after killing a Nigeria Beauty Queen in a failed fat transfer surgery for buttocks and hips enlargement.

The Face of Democracy Transformation 2013 Winner Onwuzuligbo Nneka Miriam has died on February 3rd after a 31days coma from December 30th when the surgical operation was proceeded.

According to investigations by ATTENTION MAGAZINE, The American uncertified Surgeon, Dr. Anu proceeded on the fat transfer surgery at her Med Contour Cosmetic Surgery after having several cases and records of surgery failures and complications.

Infact, recently two top Lagos Big Babes have been victims of her misplaced professional ethics and operations, which led to improper shift of their buttocks during the surgeries conducted by Dr. Anu.

The surgery went soar, when fats that where meant to be transferred to her hips got into her lungs and caused her to drift into coma, even after she was immediately rushed to Vedic Hospital in Lekki, where she was placed on life support, before she was transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, which was where she died 32 days after while in coma.

The organiser of Face of Democracy Nigeria Pageant, Alexander Ajagbonno has expressed regrets and bitterness over the loss of Queen Miriam Onwuzuligbo, who was the 2nd runner-up in the 2013 edition of Face of Democracy Nigeria, an outcome which the deceased refused to accept claiming that she merited the 1st crown.

She dragged the organisers to court for legal interventions until last year when the case was finally dismissed. The death of Queen Miriam may be disheartening, but also a lesson to other young ladies, who would not carry out critical research in a particular clinic before engaging them in such sensitive services.

The American citizen, Dr. Anu has had several professional scandals, ranging from poorly conducted surgeries to complications as a medical practitioner.

However, since the last failed surgery on Queen Nneka, she halted all activities on social media including her 43k followers Instagram handle @med_contour, where she was use to posting frequently. Research shows that she may be in hiding.

Nigerians now enjoying 24-hour power supply under Buhari – Fashola

Minister of Power, Housing and Works, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has described the situation of power supply in the country as an improvement to what the present administration met on ground.

Fashola expressed this view while speaking on Sunrise Daily on Channels TV on Wednesday. Fashola asserted that in some parts of the country like Kebbi and Yobe, the power supply is constant.

Fashola, however, revealed that the power distribution companies in those areas reported their consumers as saying that they do not need 24/7 power supply due to the high billing.

Fashola assured Nigerians that the current situation of power supply in the country would improve significantly before President Buhari leaves office in 2023. Although, he pointed out that Nigeria has a long way to go before it achieves a constant power supply.

Also, he revealed that the Federal Government is already issuing licenses to companies to produce, and supply meters to electricity consumers in the country.

Also speaking on the ongoing dispute between the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Distribution Companies (DISCOS) on whose responsibility it is to provide meters, Fashola pointed out that the sparring bodies know what to do.

Breaking: Court sentences killer of Ex-Ondo Deputy Governor Daughter, Khadijah Oluboyo, To Death By Hanging.

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure has sentenced Seidu Adeyemi to death by hanging for killing Khadijat Oluboyo, daughter of former deputy governor of Ondo State.

Khadijat, a final year student of the Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU), Akugba-Akoko, was found dead inside the room of Adeyemi at his residence in Oke Aro area of Akure on July 2nd 2018.

The deceased and Seidu dated for eight years. According to police investigation, Seidu allegedly killed Khadijah for ritual purposes and then buried her in his room.

On July 12th 2018, while he was being paraded, Seidu denied killing Khadijah.

Explaining how she was killed, Seidu said
“Khadijat was my girlfriend since 2010 and she visited me to help her in writing her final project in school. She slept in my place on Thursday and left on Friday the following day.

She sent a text message to me on Monday, 2nd July that I should send some money to her. But I was surprised to see her that same Monday when she came with two boys to my room. I left her in my room with the two boys but when they called me some 30 minutes later, one of the guys brought out a gun and ordered me to kneel down while one of them was making love to Khadijat who was naked on my bed. Khadijat was begging them to leave and promising not to tell anyone about what happened but they strangulated her in the process and ordered me to go and bring digger and shovel. I thought they wanted to use that to escape from the scene of the incident but when I entered the room they were still there and ordered me to dig the grave where we buried her in my room and covered it with the rug. ”

Asked why he failed to alert her parents or tenants when he was ordered to look for the diggers, he said

“The tenants were busy watching World Cup match and the noise from the home theater in my room was too loud to make them know what was happening even when we were digging the grave in my room. The two boys left after burying her and I couldn’t sleep in my room that day and I had to sleep in my brother’s room because I wasn’t myself and I couldn’t tell anyone because no one will believe my story. I don’t know the two guys, though they have visited my place thrice with Khadijat I don’t know them or their names. I have been dating Khadijat since 2010, she was my girlfriend but I knew nothing about these guys, she invited them, I don’t know their names but I can recognise them.”
He denied killing Khadijat

“I did not kill Khadijat for money ritual, though I joined Yahoo business this year and never made any headway I don’t plan to do any ritual”.

Reacting to Adeyemi's claims, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, dismissed it, saying his defence is infantile
''His defence is very infantile and does not hold any water and I am very sure in the next few hours he should begin to talk”.

On how the suspect was arrested, the police spokesperson said

''We met the suspect who happened to be the boyfriend to the late Khadijat, in his room trying to pack the remains in a sack and this is to tell you that he killed Khadijat. According to him, he mentioned some other suspects now at large but we found that he single-handedly looked for digger, shovel, dug a grave in his room and buried Khadijat. The Police immediately swooped on him, and on close observation of his residence, it was discovered that the suspect had actually buried the missing girl for six days and was planning to exhume the remains and finally dispose of them. According to him, he was not comfortable with the stench coming from the decomposed body as it was not properly buried''.

Maryam Sanda Trial: Court fixes date to rule on no-case-submission

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja on Tuesday, fixed April 4 for ruling in the no- case- submission filed by Maryam Sanda, charged with the killing of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

Ms Sanda was charged with the murder of Mr Bello, a son of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Haliru Bello. The accused was charged alongside her mother, Maimuna Aliyu; her brother, Aliyu Sanda; and their house-help, Sadiya Aminu.
Mr Bello died in November 2017. They were arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on culpable homicide and conspiracy.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Yusuf Halilu, adjourned after listening to submissions of all counsel on the adoption of addresses on the no- case- submission.

During the court session on Tuesday, Mrs Sanda’s counsel, Olusegun Jolaawo, in his submission told the court that the prosecution had not made a prima facie case against the first defendant to warrant her to enter a defence. According to Mr Jolaawo, the evidence brought by the prosecution before the court were done away with by cross-examination. He then urged the court to uphold that there is no case to answer by the first defendant and discharge her of the allegation against her.
In his part, counsel to the second, third and fourth defendants, Hussein Musa, urged the court to discharge and acquit the defendants because the prosecution did not adduce enough evidence to warrant them to enter a defence.

Responding, prosecuting counsel, Fidelis Ogbobe, told the court that the prosecution had made out enough evidence to warrant the defendants to enter a defence. He said there is enough evidence that linked the first defendant and others to the crime which they have to answer to. Mr Ogbobe, therefore, urged the court to reject the no- case – submission of the defendants and allow them to enter a defence.

The prosecution closed its case on January 22 after calling six witnesses.

The first defendant counsel, Mr Jolaawo and Mr Musa, counsel for three other defendants, thereafter informed the court that they were going to file a no- case- submission.

Rufus Giwa Polytechnic HND Student Who Confessed To Killing Girlfriend For Fun Sentenced To Death By Hanging.

A High Court sitting in Akure, Ondo state has sentenced to death the killer boyfriend Chukwudi Onweniwe of an HND student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, Nifemi Adeyeoye to death by hanging.

Chukwudi Onweniwe was dragged before the court in May 22 2017 on a four count charge of action endangering life, kidnapping and abduction, rape and murder.

According to the Prosecutor, Jumoke Ogunjebi said the accused person abducted the deceased and took her “to a farm near Alayere, Ogbese, raped her and then snuffed life out of her by choking and strangulating her to death.

The police prosecutor, Inspector John Aderibigbe said that one of the motorcyclists who testified in the case reported the suspicious movement of the accused person and the deceased at the police station.

Aderibigbe said that the case was later transferred to Special Anti Cultism Squad in Akure. Testifying, the mother of the deceased, Mrs Adeyeoye said her daughter had informed her she was going to visit her friend on the day she went missing. Adeyeoye claimed she did not know the accused person though he was said to be her daughter’s boyfriend.

According to her;

” l did not see my daughter again after she got missing until police men invited me to come to the mortuary to identify a corpse whether it was that of my daughter or not. Also giving evidences the two motorcyclists who saw the lover birds together on the ill fated day told the court that they conveyed them to a spot in town.

Justice Bola said that an autopsy was carried out by one Dr. Pelemo, a staff of Ondo state Specialist Hospital, Akure who described the abnormal state of the deceased’s neck and fracture of the skull. According to him “it suggested that the deceased had been attacked by an object with a blunt edge which led to her death. The judge stated that the accused person had confessed to the officers of the squad according to the testimony of one Ayoola Famoriyo and had taken his team to the spot where he hid the corpse of the deceased.

“There, the accused person had pointed to the spot where she kept the corpse and it was taken to the mortuary while the stone found near her head with which he had purportedly hit her skull was taken to the police station as an exhibit. “Famoriyo had further testified that a search of the accused person’s room had revealed the deceased’s belongings such as a school bag, wallet, some GNLD products, her phone and 22 passport photographs.

The father of the accused person Nwosu Onweniwe while giving evidence in defense of his son told the court that the deceased was his son’s girlfriend who had been very helpful to him.

Meanwhile, after examining all facts of the case, Justice Bola while delivering judgement said that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt in three out of the four count charges The Judge observed that the prosecution failed to prove the case of rape against the accused person.

He therefore found him guilty as charged on three counts and sentenced him as charged.

Justice Bola declared that “On the count of kidnapping, he was sentenced to life imprisonment, on strangulating and choking, he was sentenced to death by hanging and on murder, he was also sentenced to death by hanging.

In a previous confession to the police, Chukwudi denied that he killed her for rituals as he claimed that he had killed her for the fun of it.

“I did not remove any part of her body; I only killed her for the fun of it. I made love with her in the bush before killing her. I am not a cultist.

It was when I killed her that I realised I made a big mistake and I wept bitterly,” he said.

He added that the devil pushed him to do it.

Oshiomhole To APC Reps Members: "We Won't Share Power With PDP This Time".

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, has cautioned newly-elected members of the House of Representatives under the platform of the party against division as regards the constitution of the new House leadership.

In his words, “Please, don’t allow anybody to divide you. We shall carry out extensive consultations with Buhari and other leaders of the party to harmonise issues and work out a sensible zoning formula that seek to carry everybody along.

“We shall not again share any of the critical positions in the leadership of the House of Representatives with the opposition PDP including chairmanship of sensitive committees.

“Before the election, we had about 190 members. As we speak, Nigerians have re-elected 223 more members on the platform of the APC.

“We have overwhelming majority even if we want to amend the constitution. I’m happy to say that in the same token, the Nigerian people have expressed less confidence in the opposition PDP.

“For us to enjoy our numerical strength, we should recognise we were elected by the party’s platform.

“APC will nominate the right candidates to occupy the speaker, deputy speaker, leader, Chief whip, deputy chief whip and others.

However, we shall only allow the opposition to occupy the Minority leader and chairmanship of the public accounts committee as provided by the constitution.

“Our challenge is to have a leadership of the House of Representatives that will share the same vision with the executive. We are one family as shown in our broom. We have the number and we will use the number to elect the leaders we want."

President Buhari Congratulates First Bank On Its 125th Anniversary

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday in Abuja congratulated First Bank Nigeria on its 125th anniversary, which he said “historically and remarkably marked the commencement of banking in the country in 1894’’.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president felicitated with the bank on behalf of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and Nigerians in general.

President Buhari joined the financial services industry, particularly the banking sector, in celebrating “the purposefulness, prudence, and propriety that has become the hallmark of the bank for more than a century and quarter’’.

He also congratulated the Board, management, and staff for upholding the vision of the founder, Alfred Lewis Jones.

The President saluted the vision and strength of character of the management in providing a voice for the Nigerian economy by rendering competitive financial services that had culminated in the spread of branches across the country, Africa and Europe.

According to him, as the oldest bank in Nigeria, the FBN has lived up to the expectation of customers over the years, both private and public, necessitating its survival and continuous service as a formidable training ground for many Nigerian bankers and chief executives.

He noted that such chief executives had also established banks and served the country as Governors of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

While celebrating the milestone and great achievements of FBN, the president commended banks in the country for generally supporting government policies in buoying the economy.

He especially lauded banks for their renewed focus on infrastructural development and providing financial lifelines for businesses.

He, however, urged them to always explore partnerships that would benefit the country and promote trust.

I’m A Product Of God’s Special Mercy, Protection - Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday took a cursory look the year 2019 electioneering campaign journey and declared he emerged successful and unhurt because he is a “product of God’s special mercy and protection.”

Recalling how he miraculously survived helicopter crash in Kabba, Kogi state in February at an interdenominational service of praise and thanksgiving organised for him and the Christian communities at the Obafemi Awolowo Square, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, Osinbajo said were it not for God’s mercy, he and other occupants of the I’ll – fated Chopper would have died in the crash.

Speaking at the event, which has in attendance Governors Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos) and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) as well as the Ogun governor-elect, Dapo Abiodun, Osinbajo ascribed his survival in the crash to the special mercy of God, who according to him, has seen him through many vagaries of life.

Other personalities that joined him at the thanksgiving service included the immediate past governor of Osun state Rauf Aregbesola; Senator Godswill Akpabio; Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; Olusola Oke as well as traditional rulers from the state.

Osinbajo, who was accompanied by his wife, Dolapo to the service, said the thanksgiving in his home town became imperative to thank God for sparing his life and keeping his family.

He offered prayers for peace, progress, stability and promotion for the country, Ogun state, his kinsmen and women, acknowledging that God actually saw him through the rigours and hazards during campaigns in the build up to the 2019 general elections.

Lady who recorded Success viral story wants help

The 23-year-old graduate of Public Administration from the Auchi Polytechnic, Stephanie, who recorded the video that made Success Adegor go viral said she was shocked about the attention the video got.

Stephanie, who lives in the same compound as Success’s family, was running an errand when she ran into Success and recorded a video of her just for entertainment. But when she posted it on her WhatsApp status, people started asking for the video because it was funny. She also uploaded it on her Instagram and Facebook accounts and the video went viral from there.

However, Stephanie said that, as the initiator of the video, she has not received any show of appreciation from Success’ parents.

In a chat with PUNCH, Stephanie criticised Success’ mother for allegedly hiding things from her since her daughter started getting famous.

She said,

If you call Success’ mum now, she will tell you that the Sapele LGA chairman has given me money and that people should not give me any money. She told me that the money in her account was N700,000, not knowing that the money in the account was more than N5.3m, which good-hearted Nigerians have given them.

That is why I am angry with her. I didn’t tell her I wanted to share the money 50/50 with her. She should have told me the truth. I don’t really understand why she was hiding everything from me. She told me that she would give me N400,000 from the N700,000. I didn’t do the video because of money but since money is coming out of it, I should be carried along, rather, she started hiding everything from me.

My parents have asked me to forget about it. I even promised to help Success speak English and dress better. The local government chairman said if they don’t want to give me money, I should forget about it but it is not supposed to be like that. They were not even sure of getting N100,000 all through the year but now that they are swimming in millions, they want to give me N400,000. I have decided to leave the money with them.

“The LG chairman has said I should summit my CV, which I have done. If I don’t get a call from the local government, I will have nothing to show for my efforts. I believe my helper will come. I am a graduate. As we speak to you now, I don’t have a dime on me. I think she’s being greedy, but my parents have advised me to leave the money issue.
